You hear this all the time, but WHY is it important to set realistic goals?
I want to start by saying, it’s great to have incredible, wild, and wacky dreams that feel completely unreachable.
If you are that kind of person, I already adore you.
Big, huge, massive, incredible goals are what drives incredible progress.
Amazon was a huge dream.
Electricity was unimaginable.
Google was an incredible fantasy.
Going to the moon was a crazy unrealistic goal that someone decided to pursue.
Big, unreasonable goals are AWESOME. Don’t stop dreaming.

So, Why Is it Important to Set Realistic Goals?
The reason it’s so important is because those huge, massive dreams I just mentioned don’t just happen.
Each of the goals I mentioned started out as a thought and a dream, but were taken apart bit by bit and made into small realistic goals.
Each business, each project, and each big goal comes with small realistic goals and a plan to get there.
This is often why companies operate on a quarterly basis.
90 days is the PERFECT amount of time to assess short term goals.
And guess what!
Short term goals are the tiny parts that make up long term goals.
You can’t build a house by throwing all the bricks in a pile.
Each house that is built comes with a blueprint and a plan.
Each phase is planned out in great detail like when the foundation will be poured, how long it will take to set, when the frame goes up when the bricks are laid, all the way to when the landscape is completed.
Without setting up a plan for each phase, there is no house and it becomes total chaos.
So, why is it important to set realistic goals?
To avoid total chaos and make REAL progress.
How to Set Goals and Crush Them
Setting realistic goals will help ACTUALLY achieve them.
Pick apart your goals and make them SMART:
Specific: Be as specific as possible. Not “I want to make more money.” Add a dollar value to it.
Measurable: You want to be able to KNOW when you hit your goal, so measure it.
Achievable: If your goal is big, break it up into smaller chunks. If your goal is to sell 100 products a month, perhaps extend your timeline and start with an achievable amount like 20.
Realistic: Starting a business and saying you want to make 1 million your first year is not realistic if you’ve never run a business before. Make sure you make it a realistic figure.
Timely: Set a timeline. 90 days is a good amount of time to set and achieve a goal.
